Deadline for Utah to file appeal challenging lower court's ruling on same-sex marriage
The 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals has given the state of Utah an extension on the filing deadline to challenge US District Court Judge Robert Shelby's ruling that the state's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.

Michigan's same-sex marriage ban to go to trial
US District Judge Bernard Friedman said he needs to hear from experts on Feb. 25 before settling the fate of a 2004 Michigan constitutional amendment that recognizes marriage as being only between a man and a woman.

Supporters of same-sex marriage in Ohio weigh 2014, 2016 options
The Columbus Dispatch reported that local and national groups haven't decided whether to launch a campaign to overturn Ohio's ban on same-sex marriage in 2014 or 2016. Senator Rob Portman and former Attorney General Jim Petro, both Republicans, have publicly supported same-sex marriage.

Potential 2014 ballot in Oregon
The Associated Press reported that volunteers in more than a dozen Oregon cities are expected to pick up petitions and ask registered voters for their signatures. To make the November 2014 ballot, 116,000 valid signatures would be needed. Same-sex marriage advocates in Oregon reported in December 2013 that they had collected enough signatures.

Gay marriage efforts in Arizona
Supporters of same-sex marriage have decided to delay an initiative campaign to have Arizona voters decide in 2014 whether to legalize same-sex marriage. Advocates have said they might try again in 2016.
