Possible referendum in Indiana
A
coalition of businesses and activist groups are rallying to defeat an
amendment that would write Indiana's same-sex marriage ban into the
state's constitution. Indiana lawmakers passed the amendment in 2011,

for a statewide referendum. Indiana voters would have to approve the
amendment for it to be added to the state's constitution.

civil union laws take effect, not when they are approved or announced.
Though the timeline refers to bans by state statute and constitutional
amendment, the map of same-sex marriage bans only includes
constitutional amendments and not state statutes.
